If you read the Pern series, the books start out Fantasy, but by the end of the series all the fantasy stuff is explained as science. If a book can RETRTOACTIVELY have its genre changed by later books, the two genres are not really separate.

I love that in that conversation with Aegon, Otto realized Viserys was right. I was half expecting Otto to join the Blacks. No one tell me if he does, I haven't read the book. Also, can we say R.I.P. to the biggest tragedy in all of Game of Thrones: Viserys' model of old Valeryia.

I do think that he couldn't just tell the police about it. If only him with all his versions did such a mess you can only imagine what will happen when people with influence will learn about it. Even just knowing that it's possible is enough to start R&D in that area, let alone forcing him to reveal any detail that he knows and holding his wife and son hostage

You can’t put Mat above Moiraine after what Sanderson did to him in the last three books. He is bottom of S. Sanderson ALMOST ruined him. Fortunately, Mat has so much to do that the awesome still shines through.

Criston Cole isn't a "yes man". He's actually a violent thug who fancies himself an honorable knight. He's really more anti-Rhaenyra than anything else because he blames her for his sins and the fact he lives a lie.

Mysaria was never "loyalist". She was going with who paid her. And even then, she was actually trying to get children's fighting pits closed. She started as Daemon's lover, got used by him, and then became an info merchant and sold info to Otto.

There's a subtle like to GoT with the ratcatchers. Remember how Arya had to chase the cat around in her training with Syrio. Why do you think the cat is there? Cats replaced the ratcatchers.

wait…do we actually know which brother ended up killing himself in the end?? cause I’ve seen some people say it was actually Arryk and not Erryk, which maybe doesn’t make a whole lot of sense because he begs her forgiveness, but on the other hand if it’s true then it is almost more heart wrenching. Because what if the act of killing his beloved brother was enough to push a man who was loyal to Team Green to actually beg for Rhaenyra’s forgiveness?? Idk it probably doesn’t make sense that way but it’s interesting to think about.

Before Lucerys and Jahaerys, it was still mainly a political fight. Sure, there was some personal due to Rhaenyra/Alicent and that everyone is related, but it was still about legal succession. Now it's about murdered children. It's full on parental rage at play. They even have Aemond's mistress state that when a prince loses his temper, the smallfolk suffer. Now there's a QUEEN and a KING who have lost their tempers.

Really liked this review format Daniel! Looking forward to future reviews. As a mother & someone who experienced trauma birth & and a stillbirth the last season of the show was very difficult to watch. I couldn’t even watch the end of the first episode of this season either.

As much as I like Harry potter, I cannot give more money to JK given how she spend her time throwing hateful speech and actually pushes for political action based on that hate. She is toxic and harmful to people that have already more than enough hate thrown at them.

HOTD needs more levity. It’s a dark show and so was GOT but GOT was funny as well as grim. A family is going to war with itself. There is tension abound and it needs to be cut from time to time. I don’t need ‘a finger in the bum’ but a few more ‘he can keep his tongue’ moments would be a welcome addition.

There was a shocking amount of really funny scenes in episode 2 for me. Like the way Cole berated the twin for being impure for having a dirty cloak when Cole is breaking his vow by boinking his boss, the insecure projection came off as comedic. Or when Aegon fired Otto and visibly looked at Cole, thought: "well he's alive and in my field of peripheral vision, I guess he'll do" before promoting him to hand, and Cole having a look of /Even I know I'm not qualified for this job and that's saying something./ Or leading up to the brother's dual when the two of them spin around a pilar without Erryk seeing his brother could have been straight out of an episode of Scooby doo. And a few other scenes got audible laughs from me. None of the comedy felt intrusive, or out of place because (with the exception of the pilar scene) they were all based in the characters personalities and flaws, but it was really unexpected with how bleak the subject matter of most of the episode was.

"she had a sex scene with her son's hand" is certainly a sentence.

On the topic of The Sword of Kaigen, id love to ask for anyone who sees this comment to point me in the direction of being involved with the Indie Fiction scene. I only started reading novels about 1.5 years ago, and have gotten the Fantasy bug. Not that i know what im talking about as far as books go, but like some other creative industries, it seems like authors dont get the money/control they deserve, such as how in the music industry the big companies have you extremely bound up contractually. But the cool thing is we do live in this time where with social media presence you can do it on your own, and theres more and more success all the time, like with indie video games currently putting AAA studios/publishers to shame, deservedly so. So im already aware of Mark Lawrences efforts and SPFBO, and id love for anyone to point me towards the indie community! Twitter pages, discords, kickstarters... whatever is out there for writers to share their work and readers to follow/read it! Thank you! PS- my originally self published recommendation is The Books Of Babel, beginning with Senlin Ascends to start the series. The first 2 books are amazing, and after that you should be prepaired to put alot of work into reading books that have mixed reception on ending satisfaction. Personally i love it, but people who expect certain literary elements like plot and character progression to be neatly wrapped up and concluded be warned. If you are ok with the author doing it differently though and are open to something non standard, i highly recommend!

Go Sabriel, 100%! The first book is solid, but you get a new protagonist for the second and third books, and she, Lirael, is one of my fave protagonists ever.

1:45, yes. Ice does age! The wall constantly wilts and slowly slowly melts and the order of the builders exists mainly to replenish the ice. By the time of Game Of Thrones, the order of the builders is so minimal that they do not do this anymore and the wall has started to look less pristine. In addition the trenches on top of the wall are more well maintained and the nights watchmen are all in uniform (instead of just dying whatever they were wearing when they got there) making it all look a bit more spiffy.

The assassination is what ruined episode 1 for me, assassins have 3 people in the room, 1 witness 2 kids... kill all three and run. Weird that they didn't just do that. The plot armor there was real.

I live in rural West coast Florida just beyond the range of the buses that swing by the library. My Kindle HD 8 is a lifeline. I would always prefer physical books but the world doesn't revolve around me. I bought a 1TB card and installed it so Ill have all space I need for the future. I'm creeping toward 80.

If the issue had really been Chinese laws then the solution, other than avoiding China in the first place, other than ensuring before hand with the Chinese government that there would be no censorship, would have been to not reveal the "offending" winners in China. Just say in China that they cannot reveal the winner "for legal reason" and reveal those a few days later online...

Hey Daniel, Not really related to the video but I just want to say that you’re one of my favourite book tubers on RUclips. I feel like the internet has become a cesspool for hating on art and media and there’s this culture where you’re stupid for liking things and smart for not liking things and its made a lot of people around me become very cynical and negative about the things they consume. You’re one of the few who remain optimistic and spend more time talking passionately about the things you love than the things you don’t, and though that doesn’t bode well with the algorithm (I think…) I still think this is one of the best traits about your channel.
